QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
TAN-THROUGH BASICS
Fabric woven with thousands of micro-perforations. The holes are small enough to disappear at arm's length but open enough to let sunlight reach the skin underneath, so you tan through the suit rather than around it.
Yes. The tan develops more gradually and more evenly than bare skin, because the light is diffused across the whole surface rather than hitting directly. Most people notice the difference after a couple of sessions.
Off the body it looks lighter than a conventional swimsuit — that's the perforation doing its job. Worn, it isn't. The print is what creates coverage, which is why every suit we make is printed and none are plain. Solid colour would leave the weave doing all the work on its own.
Pattern hides the weave. A solid colour across a perforated fabric shows every hole; a print breaks the surface up so the fabric reads as opaque while still passing light. It's a structural decision, not a styling one.
The opposite. The same perforations that let sunlight in let air and moisture out, so it breathes more than standard swim fabric — noticeably so in a Melbourne heatwave.
SUN SAFETY
No, and it isn't designed to. A tan-through fabric works by letting UV reach your skin — that's the entire point. It is not sun-protective clothing and it is not a substitute for sunscreen.
No. UPF-rated garments are engineered to block UV; ours is engineered to pass it. The two goals are opposites, so we don't make a UPF claim.
Yes — under the suit as well as on exposed skin. Australia has some of the highest UV levels in the world, and Melbourne regularly hits UV 11+ in summer even on cool or overcast days. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ twenty minutes before you go out and reapply every two hours, and more often after swimming. Follow the same sun-safe advice you would anywhere else: shade, hat, sunglasses, and avoid the middle of the day.
No. Sun-safe swimwear blocks UV. Ours transmits it. If you're looking for maximum coverage from the sun, this isn't the right product.
FIT AND SIZING
One silhouette: a one-piece with long sleeves, cut high on the leg. It's designed to sit close — the fabric has natural stretch and relaxes slightly once wet.
Size down for a firmer, more sculpted fit, or up for more coverage through the torso. If you're unsure, our size guide has full measurements.
No. They're cut for movement and the fabric is light enough that you stop noticing them. The sleeves are deliberate — arms and shoulders are where tan lines show most.
CARE
Rinse in cool fresh water after every wear, reshape, and dry flat in the shade. Salt and chlorine are what age swimwear, not sunlight.
Wringing, machine drying, fabric softener, and leaving it on hot surfaces like pool concrete or a car dashboard. Don't leave it balled up in a wet bag.
Very little water is held in the fabric to begin with — the perforations mean there's less material to hold it, and far more surface area for air to move through. It dries on the body in about five minutes.
The prints are made to survive salt, chlorine and repeated sun exposure. Rinsing after each wear is the single biggest thing you can do to keep them looking new.
